Police Whistle
G.I. style police whistle, Black or Olive Drab.
Police Whistles were mainly used in the early 20th
Century before motor vehicles had a big
enough impact on the roads. Police used to carry whistles to call for back-up before the times of a
personal radio, or to attract attention of someone they
needed to speak to. When motor vehicles became more common on the streets whistles had a lesser effect as
the noise of the vehicles easily drowned out the
tune of the whistles. In modern day times traffic police officers sometimes carry whistles to attract
attention in traffic queues but not so much for
attracting attention of vehicles. Also, engraved police whistles can sometimes be given as a award to a
police officer for whatever reason usually something
like a Long Service Award.
