The US military uses Trioxane Fuel Bars which are inexpensive and are said to have an almost infinite shelf life. Because of this, they are great for survivalists who want to store supplies that are easily procurable and economical. Trioxane burns a light blue which is more tactically sound than the bright yellow of hexamine. Trioxane burns clean and hot, packs easily and compactly. These mil-spec heat tabs are made to heat military rations, camp foods, and will even boil water. Keep some in your survival kit as a quick, reliable Fire Steel. Package of 3 full sized bars are sealed in a water-proof foil. Great for use in folding camp stoves, Esbit stoves, Hexi Stoves or to light your camp fire.
  • Use a match or Fire Starter to light & you'll have instant fire for up to 9 minutes
  • Great for starting wood or coal fires
  • Will remain useable for years
  • Comes in a handy 5'' x 3 1/4'' x 1 1/4'' box
  • Box contains 3 bars in individual waterproof wrappers
Trioxane is a compressed, solid fuel, used for cooking food, boiling water, or heating your MRE's, otherwise known as military rations or Ration Packs. They were made mainly for survival and military use and usually come packaged 3 bars to a box. Each bar is individually sealed in a coated, water proof, foil wrapper and every bar is scored so that you can break it into thirds to vary the amount of fuel burned. There's nothing to spill and they are reasonably lightweight.
Except in the exact chemical makeup and burn times, they are similar in use to Hexamine tablets. One bar will burn for about 7 to 9 minutes at over 14,000 BTUs, which is plenty long enough to bring a small amount of water to a boil. They burn so hot that you will probably only need to use one full bar to make a good cup of coffee.
Designed for outdoor use, (not for use inside a tent), Trioxane is very easy to light and can be used in a variety of ways. They can be used in an Hexamine stove or if you have nothing else, simply place one on a rock and hold your pot or canteen cup over the flame for cooking. The advantages of this type of fuel is that they are extremely lightweight, there's no liquid fuel to spill, and there's nothing mechanical that can malfunction.
Trioxane is also known as triox, GI fuel tabs, Ration Heating, trioxane,1,3,5-trioxacyclohexane, 1,3,5-trioxane, aldeform, formagene, marvosan, s-trioxane, s-trixane, sym- trioxane, triformol, trioxymethylene and C3H6O3.
