The US Army M-65 Fishtail Parka, also known as M1965 Parka
or M-1965 Parka is an extreme cold
weather parka that has become a long-time favourite among the US Army's cold weather
troops.
It provides exceptional chill-chasing WARMTH. Fishtail nickname comes
from the tail-cinching drawstrings around each leg which can be snugged tight to
keep the cold out. The M1965 fishtail parka was developed in 1965 and the
M simply stands for Military. The M Date configuration is almost international
in its use amongst military gear and most models will be defined by their date. i.e. M1951 parka would be produced in 1951.
The M65 parka was the updated version of the original M51 fishtail parka which
was itself the final conclusion of the M1948 fishtail parka prototype. The M65
fishtail parka varied from the M51 fishtail parka very little other than the materials used.
It has a removable full-length button-in, nylon-quilted, poly
liner, 2 large front pockets, drawstring waist, zipper closure with snap storm
flap. The M-65 Fishtail Parka has a 70/30 cotton / nylon QuarpelŽ treated
outer shell that resists wind and moisture. Button-close adjustable wrist straps,
2 large front pockets, drawstring waist, zipper closure with snap storm flap,
button-on removable drawstring snorkel hood. Machine washable.
The M65 Parka is designed to be worn over the normal combat uniform, XS
hence the oversize.
